Part 3 – Healing Of The Chakras – The Sacral (2nd) Chakra

Learning about the Chakras helps you become aware of how these energy centers relate to your life energy flow, and how to clear them if they are blocked. When there is a block we feel unbalanced in areas that relate to specific Chakras.

This month, I’m discussing the second, or Sacral Chakra (read about first Chakra here).

The second Chakra is located at the bottom of the spine and just below the belly button. It is associated to the color orange, the element of water, and the sound of vam.

In your life energy, the Sacral Chakra relates to sexuality, creativity, personal power, intimacy and pleasure. Symbolically, the second Chakra is about the cycle of birth, life and death.

When your second Chakra is open you feel excited about life, you likely are open to new experiences and motivated to discover things about yourself and the world. A healthy Sacral Chakra attracts healthy relationships with yourself and others, and healthy sexual experiences.

A blocked or unbalanced Sacral Chakra will often show as emotional issues around intimacy, flexibility, guilt and shame. An unhealthy second Chakra can manifest as sexual dysfunction, addictive behavior, or depression.

As this Chakra relates to personal power and passion, explore what’s keeping you from expressing your personal power. Write down the beliefs you were taught as a child. What of those beliefs are no longer appropriate for you as an adult? What beliefs have kept you from feeling passionate joy? What are your beliefs about creativity, sexuality, power, passion, your looks, or anger?

Examine your self-talk to discover the messages you frequently repeat to yourself, such as, “I’m so dumb and ____,” [fill in the blank]. Replace that negative self-talk with affirmations such as, “I am smart about organizing events and ____,” [fill in the blanks].

It can be useful to have physical reminders when you are working to remove the blocks and open the Sacral Chakra. For example:

Carry orange stones such as calcite, carnelian, citrine or jasper. Moonstone is also good as it relates to the element of water.

Eat orange foods such as oranges, cantaloupe, carrots, mango, sweet potato, salmon, apricots, or peaches.

Create something that reminds you of a healthy Sacral Chakra. The act of creating is a sign of an unblocked second Chakra so anything you create will help heal your chakra.

Additional healing methods for all of the Charkas include sound therapy, acupressure and acupuncture, art therapy, yoga and massage.
