12 New Perspectives (Hanged Man)

New Perspective (the Hanged Man in traditional decks) represents the transformation from surrender to initiation. He willingly suspends himself from the tree, patiently waiting for a new way to experience the world. New Perspective pauses as he questions all he has known. He has no fear, knowing he can get down at any point. He surrenders old beliefs in order to create the new.

In the Tarot of Empowerment, New Perspective is looking at the world in a fresh way in order to achieve divine enlightenment. Once he has accomplished his goal, he will be initiated to a higher level of wisdom and understanding. He understands that through his own enlightenment he can help to create a better world.

Introspection represents the mystical power of the sage who has journeyed into his internal realms to attain wisdom. In solitude, he has traveled through his mind’s eye to achieve the highest level of consciousness. Introspection is willing to share his truth and his knowledge, yet he knows that others have their own path to follow and their own reality.

In Tarot of Empowerment, the light radiating from the heart of Introspection represents the integration of his spiritual and internal certainty. Even in a crowd the Hermit stands alone. His staff is a symbol of his long journey and the initiation into the realm of wisdom he has completed.

6 Choice (Lovers)

The card Choice represents the quest for harmony, balance, and attraction regarding the issues around your question. This card is about deciding between continuing in the old way or doing things in a new way. Choice is about recognizing and owning your belief system and values upon which you make your decisions.

When the Choice card comes up, you know that a major decision is being contemplated. You may be at a moral crossroads that will be significant in your life. It’s important to think about the long-term consequences of your decision because future opportunities hinge on it. Not making a decision is not an option.

In Tarot of Empowerment the lovers are choosing which track to travel in the next stage of their journey. They may continue together, or they may not. The decision will be based on what is in their highest good.

5 The Advisor (Hierophant)

The Advisor (Hierophant in traditional decks) represents the translator of specialized rules and language to the masses. This is the energy of the philosopher teacher who calls upon experience and tradition to provide guidance.

The Advisor is one who is an expert in the area about which you are asking the question, be it spirit, psychology, law, accounting or other areas of your life. He interprets the complicated rules and regulations of his area of life study, and translates it in a way you can understand to take appropriate action. He interprets the intricacies of his area of expertise so that the masses have access to that body of knowledge.

Traditionally, this card represents a spiritual leader who is steeped in conventional beliefs. In Tarot of Empowerment, the Advisor is portrayed as the Dali Lama, a wise and compassionate man of the world who attempts to unravel the mysteries of life through the simplicity of love. Our Advisor demonstrates that a world of compassion can bring joy and resolutions of the issues at hand. He is present in the world and his philosophy of love is available to all.

When the Advisor comes up in a reading it is time for you to seek the advice of one who has the expertise and wisdom you need to find answers to your question. This card may also indicate that you are the Advisor or teacher. If so, remember to teach with compassion, humor and tolerance. Teach with the integrity of your highest self. As the Advisor, it’s important to be fair and weigh all of the evidence without prejudice.

4 Authority (Emperor)

Someone has to have the final say in the world, and that person is represented by the Authority card. Authority represents leadership and power, and as such, is inherently neither good nor bad. He is willing to defend those under his tutelage. The compassionate Authority looks beyond what only benefits him and makes decisions based on what is best for the common good.

Authority has the wisdom and experience to provide the building blocks for the structures that will follow. He is systematic and plans carefully with long term goals in mind. His building blocks take the form of laws, boundaries, and final decisions. The lack of Authority would lead to chaos.

In Tarot of Empowerment, Authority stands with focused attention, intently listening and observing the situation before deciding the best course of action. He understands and accepts that he will take full responsibility for the outcome of his decision.

3 Sustenance (Empress)

Sustenance, traditionally called the Empress, helps to sustain and nurture her family, her community, and herself. She is confident in her abilities as a leader and in her intellect and skills to strengthen those in her sphere. She has a deep commitment to the welfare of nature and the earth as well as people. Sustenance is abundant in all ways. She does not want for anything and is generous in what she gives to help empower others. [Read more…]
